On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, HUD's Office of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) will host a hybrid event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. For half a century, the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program has been a cornerstone of federal housing assistance, helping millions of low-income families, people with disabilities, and older adults access safe, decent, and affordable housing in the private market.

This event will bring together researchers, former HUD officials, housing practitioners, and program participants to share insights into the program's impact over the past five decades. Attendees will hear about the latest research on program effectiveness, listen to retrospectives from current and former PIH and PHA leadership, and learn about the real-life experiences of voucher holders. The celebration will also explore the challenges and successes of the program, and discuss its future role in addressing housing insecurity in America.

Join us for this landmark event to commemorate 50 years of expanding housing choice and opportunity through the HCV program, administered by over 2,100 PHAs. Whether you're a housing professional, researcher, policymaker, or interested member of the public, this event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the program's legacy and its ongoing importance in the landscape of affordable housing.
