Academic background
Aaron Leo earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University at Albany (SUNY). His dissertation study explored the impact of social class disparities on the postsecondary aspirations of newly arrived refugees and immigrants in New York State. In addition to academic work, Aaron has served as a volunteer, tutor, and teaching assistant for local schools and community organizations and is a member of the American Anthropological Association, the Society for Applied Anthropology, and the American Educational Research Association. Aaron has been an instructor for an array of courses at the University at Albany and the Savannah College of Art and Design and is currently a Postdoctoral Associate for NYKids, an interdisciplinary research hub housed in the School of Education at the University at Albany. His work has been featured in the American Educational Research Journal, Du Bois Review, and Teachers College Record. In his free time, Aaron likes to go hiking, cook elaborate meals, and take his dog for walks in the park.
