Claire Smith

Predoctoral Research Fellow

Claire Smith is a predoctoral research fellow in Sociology at the Johns Hopkins University. 

Academic Background

Claire Smith will earn a BA in Sociology and Global Politics from Washington and Lee University in May 2021. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, she has worked for several civil and human rights advocacy organizations in Nashville and Washington, DC, and has also studied societal reconciliation, transitional justice, and human rights advocacy in Rwanda and Uganda. Claire's past research experience includes an honors thesis in sociology on the relationship between national identity type and immigration attitudes and a co-authored paper that proffers strategies for theorizing about social structure. Her research interests include housing policy, poverty, the spatiality of inequality, international migration, and social theory. When she’s not reading or cooking, Claire enjoys running long distances, listening to Bob Dylan, and practicing yoga.
