Academic background

Dr. Pollack’s experience as a practicing physician and general internist grounds his research into the social factors that influence health and health care use, including the role of housing policies and neighborhood environments. His work has examined the impact of housing mobility programs—programs that help families move from areas of concentrated poverty into lower poverty, ‘opportunity’ neighborhoods—on overall rates of hospitalization, spending, and asthma outcomes. His research has also investigated programs designed to promote affordable housing and support community development. He received his medical degree and was an internal medicine residency at the University of California at San Francisco. He then received a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar.
