Lizzie Tong

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Tong is a doctoral student and NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Washington Evans School of Public Policy and Governance.

Lizzie applies an interdisciplinary and mixed-methods approach to examining how social and place-based policies shape economic opportunity and upward mobility for low-income households. More recently, their research focuses on the influence of community-based organizations and social service delivery in addressing urban inequality.

Lizzie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to starting a PhD, she worked as a research assistant for the Community Development and Policy Studies Team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. In Seattle, Lizzie enjoys snowboarding, crafting, and spending time with friends.
Research interests: Neighborhood effects, urban sociology, economic inequality, and organizational theory.
