Thelonious Goerz

Predoctoral Research Fellow

Thelonious Goerz is a predoctoral research fellow in Sociology at the Johns Hopkins University. 

Academic background

Thelonious graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in sociology with honors and a minor in data science. Prior to joining PIRL, he worked as a researcher at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, the UW Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering, and the Department of Public Health. Academically, he is interested in demography, urban sociology, and quantitative methods as well as applying machine learning to urban and public policy research. His senior thesis explored the effect of Light Rail Transit on demographic and economic population composition in Seattle-area census tracts. As a Seattle native, Thelonious is an avid coffee drinker and spends most of his free time cooking, listening to music, and reading.
