Hailey Saya Tomlinson

Hailey Saya Tomlinson is an undergraduate student at The Johns Hopkins University studying Sociology and International Studies on the Global Social Change and Development track with minors in Africana Studies and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies.

Hailey is an undergraduate research assistant at PIRL and has previously conducted research on Global Social Protest at the Hopkins Arrighi Center for Global Studies. Graduating as a part of the class of 2026, Hailey has previously conducted research on Transqueer Violence & ‘Outcastation’ in the Rural South at Vanderbilt University and currently studies the Sociology of Transgender Refugees under Dr. Ilil Benjamin of the Hopkins Sociology Department. On campus, Hailey works as a Peer Educator at the Life Design Lab, serves on Student Government as the Women & Gender Minority Caucus Senator, and is a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In her free time, she enjoys exploring nature in the DMV, trying new restaurants, and watching Spanish TV shows.

Research Interests: 2STGNC+ communities; transgender inequality; cisgenderism; race, class, & caste; prisons & policing, intimate-partner violence prevention
