Natalie Shock
Natalie Schock is a PhD student at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Her primary areas of interest are early childhood education, early childhood education parent engagement, and urban parenting and families.
Academic background
At PIRL, Natalie has supported the “Who’s Moving In?” study, researching how school leaders perceive and respond to neighborhood change. Natalie also has supported early childhood education research at the Baltimore Education Research Consortium and the IDEALS Institute. Previously, she has worked as a Teach For America third-grade teacher, a producer and writer of preschool media content, a teaching assistant at Perkins School for the Blind, an AmeriCorps gang prevention/intervention counselor, and a copy editor at publications including The North County Times in San Diego and The Indianapolis Star. Natalie holds bachelor’s degrees in journalism and Italian from the University of Kansas. In her spare time, she enjoys food (dining, cooking, grocery shopping) and reading fiction, especially horror novels. Her favorite things to do in Baltimore are volunteer through Reading Partners and explore the city’s coffee shops.
